The KAC-9106D mono amp powers your subwoofer with up to 1,000 watts RMS. Integrated low-pass and subsonic filters allow you to fine-tune the signal to obtain the optimum sound from your subwoofer/box combo. If you want to really sweeten up the sound, you can tune in up to 18 dB of bass boost.

This flexible amp has speaker-level inputs and signal detecting turn-on, allowing you to use it in almost any setup. Aluminum cover plates conceal and protect the amp’s connections and controls, providing a sleek, professional appearance to your installation.

KAC-9106D Features

CEA-2006 Compliant: The CEA-2006 testing and measuring system is designed for mobile audio amplifiers. This voluntary standard promotes a consistent approach for determining the RMS power output and signal-to-noise ratio of an amplifier. The power measurement requirements employ a 14.4 volt DC input voltage, and the RMS power output is measured into a 4 load, with 1% or less Total Harmonic Distortion plus noise (THD+N), and throughout a frequency range of 20 Hz to 20 kHz (for full range amplifiers). The signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) is measured in weighted absolute decibels (dBA) at a reference level of 1 watt into 4. Consumers may compare automobile amplifiers and receivers using the CEA-2006 standards (apples to apples). According to CEA-2006 standards, the Kenwood KAC-9106D is rated at 500 watts RMS x 1 channel with a signal-to-noise ratio of 76 dBA. At rated power output (not CEA-2006 conditions), the signal-to-noise ratio is 100 dB.

2-Ohm Stability: The amplifier can also handle a 2-ohm load; the power output at such impedance is 1,000 watts RMS x 1 channel.

Cast Aluminum Heat Sink: To keep the amplifier cool, the KAC-9106D has a cast aluminum heat sink design.

Protection circuitry: The amplifier has protective circuitry that will switch the amp off if any of the following situations occur:

• speaker wire short-circuits
• unit malfunctions and DC is sent to speaker output
• speaker output contacts ground
• the amp overheats

Power Indicator: When you switch on the amplifier, the power indicator (on top of the amp) illuminates. This indicator goes out with the amplifier and will go out if the amplifier enters protect mode.

Auto Turn-on: When utilizing a speaker level input, the amp will immediately switch on when it detects the input signal.

KAC-9106D Controls

Gain: The KAC-9106D has an adjustable gain control to handle the diverse range of signal levels from today’s factory and aftermarket radios; 0.2-5.0 volts line level (RCA) and 4.0-12.0 volts speaker level.

Crossover: The built-in 24 dB/octave low-pass filter has a continuously variable crossover point; 50Hz to 200Hz. Because this is a subwoofer amp, the crossover is always engaged.

Infrasonic Filter: The 24 dB/octave Infrasonic Filter removes ultra-low frequencies that cannot be reproduced by most subwoofers. These frequencies do not become sound, but unnecessary oscillations which affect sound by causing distortion. These frequencies also waste amplifier power and can cause damage to speakers. The filter’s crossover point is continuously variable from 20 Hz to 50 Hz.

Bass Boost: The bass boost is adjustable from 0-18dB at 40Hz.

KAC-9106D Connections

Power Connections: The power and ground connectors are 0.55 inches apart “Screw terminals with a large diameter. The remote turn-on screw terminal has a length of 0.335 “wide. To tighten/loosen the terminals, a Phillips-head or flat-blade screw driver (not included) is necessary. Spade connectors are advised. The handbook recommends a minimum of 10 gauge wire for power and ground, however with a 120 amp fuse and a current consumption specification of 65 amps, we propose a 4 gauge wiring kit.

Speaker Outputs: Two pairs of 0.335″ wide screw terminal speaker outputs are provided; they are internally connected in parallel, making it simple to connect two subwoofers. To tighten/loosen the terminals, a Phillips-head or flat-blade screw driver (not included) is necessary. For the speaker cables, spade connectors are also suggested.

Line Level Input: The line input is a pair of stereo RCA jacks.

Line Level Output: The amplifier has a pair of RCA line level outputs for feeding another amplifier; it is the same signal that is input through the RCA line inputs. The amplifier’s crossovers have no effect on the line level output signal.

Speaker Level Input: A wiring harness is included for the speaker level input.

Fuses: The amplifier uses three 40-amp ATO blade-type fuses.
