Marantz NR1606 B-Stock 4K Ultra HD A/V Receiver with Wi-Fi and Bluetooth
Discover a thrilling new dimension in surround sound with the Marantz NR1606 A/V Receiver, which features Dolby Atmos immersive surround decoding, delivering breathtaking surround sound with today’s advanced movie soundtracks. With Dolby Atmos you’ll experience the same revolutionary 3D surround sound found in premium movie theaters, with the ability to create an overhead surround soundfield that dramatically expands the sonic space. And, via a future firmware update, the NR1606 will be able to decode DTS:X soundtracks, which also deliver an immersive 3-dimensional soundspace.
A slim receiver with hefty features
Whoever coined the phrase “bigger is better” never owned a Marantz slim-line receiver. Our customers consistently rave about what big performers these low-profile receivers are, and the NR1606 comes loaded with features to satisfy home theater fans. With 7.2 channels of thrilling surround sound and all of the latest video and music features, plus convenient smartphone control, this slim unit packs everything you’d find in a larger receiver into an unobtrusive design that fits nicely on just about any shelf or stand.
Ready for 4K
Every HDMI connection on the NR1606 is HDCP 2.2 compliant, so you’ll be able to take full advantage of current and future Ultra HD content with a compatible 4K TV. You’ll enjoy remarkable clarity and definition from 4K Blu-ray discs (a format we’re excited to see later this year), online video streaming and subscription-based services, and even home movies taken with a 4K-capable camera. You don’t have to wait for more content to be released before you can enjoy ultra-high-definition picture quality — the NR1606 can upscale lower-resolution signals to 4K, so all your video sources, including older DVDs and Blu-rays, will sparkle with new life.
Take your home theater above and beyond with Dolby Atmos and DTS:X
A technology that just made its debut in home theater receivers last year, Dolby Atmos creates the most lifelike, captivating surround sound of any audio format we’ve heard to date. If you’re watching a plane take off onscreen, your ears will follow it down the runway along with your eyes, and as it roars directly overhead you might swear your hair is blowing back. The NR1606 supports a 5.1.2 Atmos setup. If you’re ready to explore this new dimension in home theater sound, you’ll just need to add a pair of in-ceiling speakers to your five-channel system, or pick up a pair of Atmos enabled upward-firing speakers to project sound off your ceiling and create the height effects that make an Atmos system so riveting.
Flexible connections let you add music to a second room
If you’re happy with 5.2-channel surround sound in your living room, the NR1606’s surround back channels need not go to waste. Reassign them to power a set of speakers in a second area, so you can relax and enjoy music out on the patio while someone else watches a movie in the main zone. The receiver’s surround back channels can also be used as height channels in a Dolby Atmos setup, or to bi-amp your front speakers for more powerful sound.
Wireless connectivity gives you near-infinite listening options
With Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, and Apple AirPlay all built-in, you’re not likely to find yourself at a loss for great music at a moment’s notice. You’ll have quick access to your own digital music library and thousands of Internet radio stations from around the world. There’s also support for subscription-based services like Spotify, Pandora, and SiriusXM Internet radio, so you can listen to all of your on-the-go favorites through your home theater speakers.
Substantial sound quality
The NR1606 supports playback of high-resolution audio files so you can enjoy sumptuously detailed music. Marantz’s compressed audio enhancer revitalizes lower-resolution audio formats, letting you get the most out of any music source you select. And don’t be fooled by the modest amplifier rating. We hear from lots of customers that their 50-watt-per-channel Marantz receivers have plenty of power to fill small and medium-sized rooms.
Simplified setup and operation
You won’t need to spend hours poring over the owner’s manual to set up the NR1606, thanks to Marantz’s Setup Assistant. Just plug in the receiver, connect it to your TV with an HDMI cable, and follow the on-screen instructions to get your system connected in no time. Then plug the included setup microphone into the NR1606’s front panel, and the Audyssey MultEQ calibration system measures your speakers and the room’s acoustics to give you optimal sound. Smart Select buttons on the receiver and remote allow for easy source switching, and the receiver remembers sound settings for each input. The Marantz AVR Remote App for iOS and Android lets you use your mobile device as a Wi-Fi remote for easy, intuitive home theater control
Paradigm Monitor 7 Floor Standing Speakers
If you’re buying “fronts,” or stereo speakers, for your home setup, and you have a big-enough room, then a set of large, floor-standing speakers makes a lot of sense. They take up the same amount of physical space as a pair of stand-mount, or bookshelf speakers, and are usually capable of both better bass and an improved sense of scale.
The Paradigm Monitor 7 v7 speakers are on the slender side of floor-standing designs, but can still belt out satisfying amounts of home theater bombast. While they sound good with all kinds of music, they’re on the exciting side of neutral and the bass can be a little heavy-handed. Their most remarkable characteristic, however, is a wide soundstage that seems to extends well beyond the position of the speakers themselves.
Compared against some of its more imposing competition, the Paradigm 7 v7 are positively slim. The only “look at me” aspect of the design is the bare aluminum driver which offers a surprisingly attractive contrast against the matte-black fascia and second black driver.
The speaker comes in two finishes — black ash and heritage cherry — and we received the black version. The cabinet measures 6.9 inches wide by 9 inches deep and a fairly standard 36 inches tall with the rigid plastic plinth attached. Completing the package is a pair of magnetized speaker grills.
The system is a 2.5-way speaker, meaning a tweeter, mid/bass and dedicated bass driver configuration. The tweeter is a 1-inch anodized aluminum driver protected by a wire mesh grille, the mid/bass is an 5 1/2 -inch aluminum driver and the bass woofer is a carbon-infused polypropylene cone. The design is ported at the rear and is capable of a claimed 48 Hz – 22 kHz at -/+2dB while sensitivity is relatively good at 91dB.
Paradigm Monitor Center 1
The Center 1, like so many other Paradigm center channel speakers, is a superb product: compact yet still a true 3-way. The tweeter in the middle crosses over to the midrange below it at 3 kHz, which in turn crosses over to the pair of woofers to either side at 550Hz. Not only does this embody all the virtues of a true 3-way, but it does so with virtually no off axis combing, the woofers being very close together to begin with and voicing only up to a relatively low frequency. The midrange is “protected” from the backpressure of the woofers by being in a sealed volume of its own.
Paradigm Monitor Surround 1
The Surround 1 carries on a very long lineage of dedicated dipole surround speakers. The Surround 1 have a shallowed angle to the poles. Not only does this enable the attractive curved appearance, but in giving them a little more direct sound to their mix it may yield a more even presentation to multiple rows of seating. The pair of tweeters and 4 1/2″ mid-bass drivers are squeezed into a remarkably compact enclosure. Wall mount hardware is included, suitable for drywall attachment, though catching a stud is always preferred. The binding posts are suitably recessed for wall mounting but use of something like bananas will still require an accommodating hole in the wall. In addition half-sphere rubber feet are provided should you need to place them on a shelf or other horizontal surface.
