NAD C 389 BluOS Hybrid Digital Amplifier with MDC2 BluOS-D installed

C 389 BluOS Hybrid Digital Amplifier

NAD's C 389 BluOS HybridDigital DAC amplifier offers audiophile-class performance, flexible connectivity choices, class-leading upgradability and unbeatable pricing. It builds on five decades of innovation in amplifier design. The C 389 BluOS uses the same ESS Sabre DAC as NAD's famous M33 BluOS streaming amplifier and the company's tried-and-true HybridDigital UcD amplifier architecture.

The C 389 can accept all of your source components thanks to a comprehensive array of digital and analogue inputs, including an extremely low noise phono stage and HDMI eARC interface. It includes two speaker output sets, two subwoofer output sets, preamp outputs, and a dedicated headphone amp in addition to the two speaker output sets. Because the C 389 BluOS uses MDC2, the most recent version of NAD's Modular Design Construction technology, owners can upgrade to new features like BluOS multi-room streaming and Dirac Live room correction.

With Extra Power to Spare

The C 389 BluOS has been designed from input to output to produce exhilarating dynamics and transparent, fine-grained sound. The award-winning Masters M33 amplifier from NAD uses the same 32-bit/384kHz ESS Technology Sabre DAC chip as the digital section. The ESS Sabre 9028 DAC, which is renowned for its near-zero clock jitter, incredibly broad dynamic range, ultra-low noise, and distortion, enables it to produce astounding clarity and nearly holographic imaging on all sources.

The C C 389 BluOS uses a modified version of NAD's HybridDigital UcD architecture for the output stage. This design features numerous UcD amplifier modules in a balanced bridged arrangement and a cutting-edge switch-mode power supply that can deliver large current reserves on demand. This makes it possible to generate realistic listening levels with any loudspeaker load. The C 389 BluOS can supply up to 350W* Watts per channel of instantaneous power for seamless reproduction of musical transients and 130 Watts per channel of continuous power with nearly undetectable distortion and noise across the audio band.

With the Future in Mind

The C 389 BluOS can adapt to new technological developments and changing user needs thanks to its two MDC2 expansion slots. The Modular Design Construction future-proofing technology from NAD was introduced in 2006 and enables owners of MDC-capable components to add additional capabilities by inserting an extension module into an MDC slot on the rear panel. MDC2, a brand-new design that launched in 2021, enables two-way communication between the host component and extension module. The MDC2 BluOS-D from NAD is the brand's first MDC2 module and includes Dirac Live room correction in addition to BluOS high-res multi-room streaming.

The MDC2 BluOS-D can be wired or wirelessly connected to your home network. The C 389 BluOS can be included in a whole-home music system with up to 64 zones when MDC2 BluOS-D is installed. The BluOS program, which is available for Android, iOS, macOS, and Windows allows users to play music from their preferred streaming services or from their personal music archives. More than 20 providers, including those that provide lossless and high-res music, such as Amazon Music HD, Deezer, Idagio, Qobuz, and Tidal are supported with the BluOS Controller app. The MDC2 BluOS-D, like all BluOS-capable devices, includes MQA decoding and rendering capabilities for Tidal high-res streaming. Additionally, it supports Google Assistant voice control, Apple Airplay 2, Spotify Connect, and Tidal Connect.

Standing waves and room reflections are acoustic issues that are addressed with Dirac Live room correction. Open the free Dirac Live* programme on a smart device or desktop computer, plug the supplied microphone into the USB port of the optional MDC BluOS-D and then use the system. Your speakers will be used by Dirac Live to play test tones while it analyses the results and then transfers compensating filters to the MDC BluOS-D. You'll experience a deeper, more textured bass as well as better timbral precision and precise imaging as a result. The MDC2 BluOS-D offers these advantages on all sources linked to the C 389 because of the two-way architecture of MDC2.

As Simple as Plugging in and Playing

All the necessary inputs are available on the C 389 BluOS to accommodate your audio source components. These comprise two sets of RCA line-level analogue inputs, two sets of optical and two sets of coaxial digital inputs. For improved acoustic purity, the analogue inputs incorporate ultra-low-noise buffer amplifiers. Vinyl enthusiasts will value the C 389 BluOS's excellent MM phono stage because it offers perfect RIAA equalization, high overload margins, and exceptionally low noise. Without impairing bass performance, the phono section's novel circuit eliminates the infrasonic noise that is always present during vinyl playing.

The C 389 BluOS offers an HDMI eARC port for movies and television, allowing viewers to enjoy TV audio over their high-quality speakers while regulating volume with the TV's remote. The C C 389 BluOS can act as the central component of a 2.1- or 2.2-channel system for the playback of music and movies thanks to its two subwoofer outputs. Users can adjust the crossover frequency with the BluOS app after installing the MDC2 BluOS-D to ensure a seamless transition between the subwoofers and main speakers. The C 389 BluOS's dedicated headphone amplifier can handle high- and low-impedance studio headphones thanks to its low output impedance and very high voltage output capabilities. Additionally, the C 389 BluOS offers two-way wireless Bluetooth with Qualcomm's AptX-HD codec support for 24-bit streaming from your smartphone or tablet as well as wireless playback through Bluetooth headphones and speakers.

A Modern Classic

The NAD brand has been associated with quality and performance for more than 50 years. This reputation is further cemented with the C 389 BluOS HybridDigital DAC Amplifier. The C 389 will produce exhilarating dynamics and beautiful clarity from all your musical sources thanks to its precise volume control, ultra-low-noise circuitry, and state-of-the-art amplifier design. Owners of the C 389 BluOS can upgrade their systems with cutting-edge features like automated room correction and multi-room audio streaming by using NAD's next-generation MDC2 future-proofing technology. A high performance audio system may be built around the NAD C 389 BluOS today and for years to come.
