At the heart of the WM1ZM2 is a gold-plated chassis made from 99.99% pure oxygen-free copper (OFC), a notoriously tough material to machine—but chosen for its unrivaled acoustic benefits. This upgraded purity improves sound rigidity and clarity, giving bass notes more authority, expanding the spatial feel of music, and enhancing mid-to-high range detail with beautiful decay and realism.
Rich and Faithful Sound Reproduction
Sony’s S-Master™ HX digital amplifier, developed in-house for Walkman®, supports Native DSD and high-powered balanced output. It minimizes distortion across the frequency range and is further enhanced by premium lead-free solder for smoother, fuller sound reproduction.
Enhanced Power Supply Design
Inspired by the high-end DMP-Z1, the WM1ZM2 features a beefed-up power supply in both analog and digital sections. A large solid high polymer capacitor supports the amplifier block with rapid, stable power delivery, leading to tighter bass and clearer vocals. The custom FT CAP3 capacitors and OFC-milled digital shielding block all contribute to a purer signal and more immersive soundstage.
Precision Internal Components
Every internal component is chosen for performance. High polymer capacitors boost unbalanced output, film capacitors ensure voltage linearity, and winding inductors in the digital block eliminate distortion. The WM1ZM2 also introduces KIMBER KABLE® wiring for clean, high-quality signal transmission and features dual crystal oscillators for perfect timing at 44.1kHz and 48kHz multiples.
Gold-Enhanced Solder and Circuit Precision
For the first time, Sony uses reflow solder containing gold throughout the board to improve signal flow, vocal clarity, and sound localization. Premium gold-content solder also connects the battery to the circuit, reducing signal loss to near zero. Copper-filled vias and a low-dielectric circuit board further optimize transmission for crisp, spacious sound.
Intelligent Circuit Board Layout
